Nanoscience and nanotechnologies:
opportunities and uncertainties
Our report on nanotechnologies - ‘Nanoscience
and nanotechnologies: opportunities and uncertainties’
- was published on 29 July 2004. The report illustrates
the fact that nanotechnologies offer many benefits both
now and in the future but that public debate is needed
about their development. It also highlights the immediate
need for research to address uncertainties about the
health and environmental effects of nanoparticles –
one small area of nanotechnologies. It also makes recommendations
about regulation to control exposure to nanoparticles.
We hope that you find the report of interest, and welcome
your feedback on it (see Send us your comments).
In order to make it easier and quicker to access, the
main report has been split into chapters below. A pdf
of the summary report – which contains the summary
and recommendations of the main report – is also
available. If you would like to receive a pdf of the
main report (3,511 KB) or a hard copy of either the
main or summary reports, please email nano@royalsociety.org
