I was much impressed by the coverage of the views and the meeting has been extremely
useful. I would like to offer the following detailed comment under the heading
Electronics page 14.
The electromagnetics of Metamaterials is creating a lot of interest at present
because of the potential applications in microwave and millimetre devices. Metamaterials
emulate the selective frequency behaviour of crystaline materials by inserting
metallic inclusions in conventional dielectric materials. However the electrical
size of the inclusions is too large for many applications and there is scope for
nanomaterial research here to create size reduced artificial crystaline structures
at microwave frequencies.
